Meet the Maker: Phil Benton

Tell us a little bit about your background?

I'm originally from the Lake District but moved to Jarrow over 17 years ago. I got into photography about 12 years ago after suffering from a long term illness. I'm self taught and a member of a local photography club.

What inspires your work?

Other photographers' work and trying to improve my own photographs.

How do you develop your ideas?

Practise, practise, practise.

What is it about your creative practice you enjoy the most?

I love to create images through artwork that is different from normal.

Do you face any challenges in producing your work?

Yes I have ME which restricts the time I am able to work so I work when I can and do my best.

Do you have anything new and exciting planned for your work?

I'm setting up a shop on my website which will be finished soon. You will be able to purchase many of my products with a click of a button!
