Katherine Roger

Katherine’s work is inspired by the birdlife and landscape of her home in North East England. Working mainly with acrylic paints, she specializes in colourful paintings of British wild birds and of birdsong. She uses a wide range of techniques, some with Surrealist origins and others which Katherine has developed through her own exploration of acrylic medium. It is her experimental and innovative approach which gives her paintings their unique beauty.

She has previously worked as an Artist/Designer, Secondary School Art Teacher, Artist-in-Residence and Painting Tutor, both in the UK and in New Zealand and currently runs regular painting workshops in her home studio (her previous studio was at National Trust Gibside). She also runs weekly workshops at the Land of Oak and Iron Heritage Centre and themed workshops for Gateshead Council Arts. Katherine firmly believes in the benefits of painting as a route to mindfulness and this is a key focus of her own practice and of her teaching.

Katherine’s original paintings and fine art giclee prints have been exhibited at a range of galleries including Haslam’s of Hallgate in Hexham, the North East Art Collective in Newcastle, Art Unlimited Gallery in Dorset, and The Bowlees Centre, Teesdale. Katherine’s work is also featured in the book ‘A History of Birds in the Derwent Valley’ by local Ornithologist Michael Turner.
