David Lawson Ceramics

David specialises in producing hand thrown, hand carved stoneware pottery.  He has recently been developing more works in porcelain and large scale, hand built pieces.

He draws inspiration from nature and the variable effects of the wood-firing process.  He is motivated by the desire to produce beautiful ceramics that inspire one to cook and eat well.

David’s work is wood-fired and salt-glazed in his hand builtkiln in Hexham.  All his ceramics have a robust design destined for functional use.  Each piece has a unique finish due to the interaction of wood flames and refined minerals.

William Morris spoke of having “nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful”; David’s work accomplishes both.
