Born in South Africa to anti-apartheid activist parents of British and Lithuanian Jewish background, Nicola moved to Norhumberland during high school and then attended The Glasgow School of Art. While at the Glasgow School of Art, she spent six months at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing to learn about colour in painting.
Nicola has a passion for colour and for drawing. From early childhood, she spent hours drawing and painting. Her current work is primarily about colour. Her paintings are founded on observations of colour and colour combinations in objects that she finds particularly pleasurable. Mixing and exploring the colour in paints or dyes to match an object being scrutinized, gives her profound satisfaction.
Plans for the future include exploring how colours extracted from observation can be brought into design and pattern on surfaces in the applied arts.
