Where does experience become memory?
My interest is caught when immediate, visceral experience settles to become something deeper – an element of landscape memory.
Boundaries, edges and marginal places are a recurring theme – where the land meets the sea and edges crumble or where a swollen river hurtles through the valley carrying echoes of wilder weather on the peaty fell-tops.
Other boundaries interest me too. Where does drawing become painting or painting become drawing? Are they, in fact, the same thing?
I work in two dimensions either with oil on canvas or with a variety of media (often mixed) on paper.
