Thelma Russell – Feltmaker

Thelma Russell - Feltmaker
Thelma is an ex-IT professional, but she has always worked with textiles – dressmaking, costumes, embroidery. Five years ago she learned to make felt. Every piece of hand-made felt is the outcome of a dialogue between the hands of the maker and the wool she’s working with.  The result is unpredictable;  it’s affected by the skill and patience of the maker and the nature of the fibre itself, so each piece of felt is unique. Felt can be delicate, sculptural, or thick and durable – I love traditional Asian felts, but I am also inspired by the amazing work of the many contemporary artists using this medium.Thelam Russell - Feltmaker
